Olivier Messiaen (1908 - 1992)

Olivier Messiaen foi um compositor, organista e ornitólogo Francês. Sua música tem como base cantos de pássaros, música oriental (Balinesa, Hindu, para citar algumas) e a sua fé, pois era um católico fervoroso. Dentre as suas obras estão dois dos mais incríveis trabalhos musicais do século XX, o "Quarteto Para O Fim Dos Tempos" (que ele compôs ao estar encarcerado durante a 2ª Guerra Mundial), e a Sinfonia de Turangalîla (uma das peças em que ele ajudou a popularizar um dos primeiros instrumentos eletrônicos inventados, o órgão Ondes Martenot). Eu tomei conhecimento de sua obra este ano ao adentrar a Música Erudita, e hoje, o dia em que ele estaria fazendo 100 anos, quero deixar registrado aqui no Less Is More a minha homenagem.

Bah... o que dizer sobre um monstro sagrado como Olivier Messiaen? Trata-se sem dúvida de um dos compositores eruditos mais importantes dos últimos 100 anos, cultor d'uma estética fasciscante e extremamente pessoal, a demonstrar de forma lapidar a sutil dialética existente entre o impulso inovador e o emprego criativo das matrizes da tradição... enfim:
